首先，英语竞赛在中学生的各类竞赛里面用途是最小的，跟物理化学这些理科竞赛有很大差距，跟数学竞赛更是没法比，因为理科的这些竞赛里表现好，是有全国赛，然后代表中国参加世界比赛的；同时，高校在组织自主招生的时候看重的都是理科竞赛。
另外，英语竞赛里面，最有权威的是全国中学生英语能力竞赛。
以我自己为例，我初中时候获过全国中学生英语能力竞赛的一等奖，和某个英语报纸组织的英语竞赛一等奖，前者使我中考获得加分，后者没用。高中时候是全国中学生英语能力竞赛一等奖，由此获得了到武汉大学参加自主招生的机会。
